A shout out to some awesome writers!

I tend to forget that I'm blogging for class, instead of just for myself.  So when we were told to explore the other class blogs, I got so caught up in READING my classmate's blogs, I forgot there was an actual post I had to make FOR class.  This is that post. So in addition to the wonderful blogs I already follow, I've chosen to follow these other from my 455 Living Writer's class: Natalie's blog  --"My Cat Thinks I'm Funny" Will's Blog --"10 Years and Counting" Genevieve's Blog --"Sixty-six Places I'll Never See" Chelsea's Blog --"When I Grow Up" Tommy's Blog --"Why Write?" and others.  >.< Natalie and Will make me laugh.   They each have distinct topics: Natalie writes on the intricacies of college life, Will about The Mariners and their quest to regain stardom. If you want a good laugh, they are the providers.   ALSO: you don't have to like college life OR the Ma...

Florence Friday: Picky Eating

A glass of fruit and gelato I was having trouble finding a theme to blog about today, ironically, because I didn't want to post about food.  In my apartment, I'm the picky eater (but my roommate eats damn near everything, so I don't really think that's a fair judgement).  I also have a reputation for not getting hungry.  My stomach can rumble loud enough to wake a hibernating bear, but I will not  be hungry. (trust me on this one) Despite the unfairness above, I am a picky eater---yes, mom, I will acknowledge that--but I've been getting much better at being open to try new things. San Marzanos--Italian tomatoes As a result, one of my *fears* of going to Italy was that damn near every meal would include some version of one of my least  favorite foods:  tomatoes. Currently, my biggest intake of lycopenes comes from ketchup.  I can stomach them if they're in burgers, and I do eat tomato sauce in small amounts, like on pizza...

TEDtalk Tuesday: SOPA & PIPA & ACTA**updated**

********UPDATE*********** This article  by CNN tells the story of the current state of ACTA, and what the rest of the world is doing about it.  President Obama already signed the pact, so it's up to the rest of the world to do something about it.  The European Parliament is the last to review the treaty, in June, 2012--and our last hope against ACTA.  Do you think we can make enough noise to make them hear us? These guys tell it best, I think: *************************** So, I know this blog post is a bit late, considering the Web Blackout of 2012 protesting the SOPA/PIPA bills was last Wednesday...but, I still think it's important, and still relevant. Personally, I learned about SOPA and PIPA a few months ago when this video  from the American Censorship Organization appeared in my facebook feed. I watched it, signed the petition...and forgot about it. Then my world we...

Sunday Scribbles

On account of wanting to be a graphic designer, I thought I ought to practice my drawing skills.  But, like everything else in my life, I never seem to "have time" for sketching. That's a dirty lie. So, once a week, on Sundays...I will draw you a pretty picture.  Here is today's Sunday Scribble (yes, I do know it's Monday) Did I mention I allowed myself the use of adobe products to make it look more colorful than it is?   Happy Sunday!  (yes.  It's Monday.  I get it.)

My sister, the artist

Today's blog is about nail polish. (take a deep breath, boys.  I'll keep it short.) My younger sister hasn't taken much interest in video games, like my brother and I have.  She also dislikes being an over-achiever in school (like my brother an I are), and she's an all around athlete (so unlike us).   She still gets good grades, and plays video games once in awhile on the Wii, but she genuinely loves crafts.   Oh yeah...she can cook better than me too. She's a genius at artsy things.   She'll make her own headbands, make her own feather chains to put in her hair, draw clever pictures for birthday cards, scrapbook like a pro...If it's crafty, she will learn it--and be good at it. One of these crafty passions she's in at the moment involves painting her nails.  And it's not just the boring one-color paint job like I do on mine: My nails: a suspicious shade of lime green I was gifted for Christmas. Thank goodness it's al...

Florence Friday!!--snow and language

THIS JUST IN: I was checking my blog stats the other day, and it said I had 130 pageviews, and when I went to break it down, it showed: 129 America, 1 Germany. That's right people.  I have an  international audience.     Hallo Germany! They're probably the 2% running Linux, too.  Too cool, Germany.  Too cool. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...anyhow. TODAY IS FLORENCE FRIDAY!!!!!!  And that calls for a picture. ah! it snows it Florence too!  =D  I'm so happy!  Those umbrellas confuse me, though... The photo above is from Melinda Gallo 's facebook page.  I just googled "Florence Italy blog" and hers was right on top.  I think, perhaps, I'll start following her...if only for the pictures.  =) I ought to make a checklist of all the things I need to do before I go.  Oh wait.  I already have one...and it keeps GROWING. On the ...

TEDtalk Tuesday...on Thursday.

Sorry guys. I know it's not Tuesday.  It's not even Thursday anymore, as far as many of you are concerned. Most of my excuses pertain to the recent PNW snowfall, and an onset of recklessness, laziness, procrastination, and a simple willingness to just be outside. What was I saying about general recklessness? I DID mean to post on Tuesday.  In fact, I watched several TEDtalks that day; videos ranging from a cool statistics program  with a speaker who is like a sports commentator, to a pair of hilarious jugglers , a man who nearly died from healthy living, and a slew of videos about the brain and how it works , and how that will change computing . So...I've been busy.  I just haven't blogged. I gave you a bunch of links to my recent escapades through TEDland, and since I know 99% of you DIDN'T watch my last TED video, I figure I'll just skip to my thoughts and let you explore as you want this week. The reason I watched so many TEDtalks on ...
